Please tell us a bit about yourself and what you sell at Purity Leather Goods.
My name is Colette Rymer, the maker and owner at Purity Leather Goods. We sell a variety of leather goods – from women’s bags to aprons, and even dog collars!
When did you start selling online? Why?
I opened my first store, Purity Leather Goods, almost two years ago; and six months ago with my second store, Purity Purse Straps. I worked in corporate America for 16 years in digital marketing and was ready for a change. Selling online seemed to be the easiest way to start selling my leather goods.
What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in building and running Purity Leather Goods?
The biggest challenges I have faced in building and running my shop was to overcome the learning curve of the backend of my site through Shopify and taking pictures. It just takes time to learn anything new and it is done with ease now. Pictures are still a challenge to me though.
How do you attract new customers?
Being in digital marketing for 16 years helped me out tremendously. Using social media, especially Instagram, and Google+ have been the key for me. I have tried paid advertising through Facebook and Instagram; but have yet to see any results from it. I just started my email marketing with Bizzy and with my first email campaign, I received multiple sales.
Can you share a tip or something interesting you learned in the process of building and running Purity Leather Goods?
It takes time. My items are handcrafted and I do not keep stock, so it’s a huge process from making the item and then fulfilling it. Social media is key for me as I do not have the funds to try different avenues of advertising yet. In particular, it’s been key for me to update on Google+.
