Please tell us a bit about yourself and what you sell at Social Monograms.
Social Monograms is an online destination for personalized products for everyone in your life and features unique items, fonts, and designs that you will not find anywhere else! Social Monograms Luxe is our luxury line where discerning shoppers will find the finest personalized wares. Twin sisters, Ashley and Valerie, own Social Monograms.
When did you start selling online? Why?
Social Monograms has been in business since 2012 and has always operated online in order to be available to customers 24/7.
What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in building and running Social Monograms?
Trying to do it all is a huge challenge, and we’ve overcome this by bringing on new people when necessary. Now we have a customer service team that aims to reply to messages within an hour, someone who prepares all the financials, graphic designers who have contributed designs, photographers who offer professional images, a business advisory team that offers great counsel.
Marketing has certainly been challenging at times as we try to grow our small business but finding Bizzy has helped a great deal. The funnel messages keep us reaching out to our customers, and the calendar messages are so easy to fill in and send quickly.
How do you attract new customers?
We’ve had success attracting new customers with Facebook and Instagram ads and with social media contests. Our rewards program, Monogram Money, has also helped us attract new customers as existing customers receive rewards for sharing on social media and referring new customers. Finally, listening to customers’ needs helps tremendously. Social Promos, our promotional products line, was born out of requests from existing customers, and now we can serve an entirely new customer base with these promotional items.
Can you share a tip or something interesting you learned in the process of building and running Social Monograms?
The best advice we can give is to not be afraid to try something new and to let it fail if it’s not working. Move on and try something else. Many times we have learned what works through trial and error. Also, Shopify is fantastic and using the apps in the App Store have grown and enhanced our website in ways we never could have done on our own.
